Climate: The Gulf Stream and Atlantic Ocean winds have a direct effect on Belgian weather. Belgium does not suffer from extreme climatic changes so there is no particular time of the year to avoid when visiting Belgium. It has a very temperate climate although in the area around the Ardennes the climate does become more continental with colder winter and warm summers. Snowfalls are also very frequent in this area. It is advisable to carry an umbrella in Belgium no matter what time of year. Cloud and rain is more expected along the coastal areas. The weather is milder inland with summers being generally mild and cloudy whilst fog and rain are frequent during the winter months. The average daily temperature is 4 degrees Celsius in the winter and 22 degrees Celsius during the summer. It is advisable to wear medium weight clothing all year and waterproof clothing is necessary during the winter months.
